  
On arrival, pipe is checked by yard personnel for obvious damage that may have occurred in loading or shipping. Checks are also made for contamination of external surfaces by oil, grease and ferrosalts. Reports are completed as a means of controlling nonconforming product. Once checked, the pipe is racked on wooden sills where it is segregated by diameter, wall and grade. Once a coating schedule has been designated, pipe is moved from the initial storage areas to the inbound plant racks. Both production and quality control personnel spot check the pipe for additional signs of contaminants. Localized spots of oil or grease are removed using SSPC-SP-1 cleaning methods, prior to preheating and cleaning. |
