Final Electrical/Visual Inspections

Electrical Testing Next, rope separators are installed on each joint to protect coated pipe from damage during transportation. Calibrated Mikrotest gauges, verified with U.S. National Bureau of Standards, measure film thickness on each coated pipe. Coating thickness is most often in the 12 to 14 mils range, but greater thickness can be applied to meet customer specifications.

Detected holidays are repaired using hot-melt patch sticks or two-part epoxy patching compounds. Patching materials manufactured for each individual FBE powder are used according to product specifications.

Pipe ends are inspected for damage and residual coating is buffed off the bevel ends.

The number of holidays, coating thicknesses and pipe information are recorded as part of the traceability requirement of the quality system. All inspections and test records are established and maintained in accordance with the ISO 9002 standards.
