Three 1" by 8" straps are cut from each test sample and cooled to 32 degrees Fahrenheit to test coating flexibility at low temperatures using a four-point bending jig or hydraulic mandrel unit. This test is performed within 30 seconds of removal from the cooling unit. The four-part jig will bend a sample to the point of failure. Evaluation of samples bent on the four-point jig can be performed using an inclinometer or charts of known radius. The hydraulic mandrel unit is used to test coating flexibility against mandrel of known radius. A visual examination after bending ascertains the pass/fail status. |
